Low
Cost Family Entertainment |
For the large majority of participants, BMX
becomes a weekly form of family entertainment. The
average entry fee is good for a full evening of racing
fun for the family. There is no spectator fee at BMX
tracks and everyone is welcome to come and cheer on the
racer (or racers) in the family.
For the
beginner, the ABA offers a 30 day trial membership for
$25. This "get started" membership assures the rider of
being properly insured and allows the racer to try BMX
at a very low cost.
The annual fee for a full
membership is $45.00. As a full ABA member, a racer
receives a complete membership kit which includes a
number plate with his assigned number, a membership card
which entitles him to be able to race at any ABA track
nationwide, an ABA rulebook with complete racing rules,
and assorted stickers. The rider is also eligible for
special discounts, awards and benefits throughout the
year.
In addition, the full membership racer will
receive the monthly BMXer Magazine. The BMXer Magazine
is packed with news, current race coverage, bike tests
and rider interviews. It keeps every ABA member
up-to-date on all of the upcoming events and races. In
each issue of this magazine, listed under the racer's
district and name, will be his current points and
ranking. It is from the district points ranking that the
rider will earn his racing number for the next session.
To top it all off, the rider is insured with secondary
medical insurance.
The equipment needed to get
started in BMX can also be very inexpensive. Most
beginners usually already have a 20" BMX type bicycle
that will work fine. If not, used bicycles are already
available from local bike shops or classified ads. The
additional equipment a racer will need, a helmet, long
pants and long sleeve shirt, almost every kid already
has. This equals high quality BMX fun for a low budget
price. | | |
